Schools in Vermont with Online MPA Programs
Norwich University offers an online MPA program through its School of Criminology and Criminal Justice housed within the College of Graduate & Continuing Studies. The program requires the completion of 36 graduate credit hours of study. Online students may tailor their degree by concentrating elective courses in one of the following areas: General Public Administration, Criminal Justice and Public Safety, Fiscal Management, Nonprofit Management, Public Sector Leadership & Crisis Management, Procurement and Government Contract Management, Critical Infrastructure Protection and Cyber Crime, Energy Management, Organizational Leadership Management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, and Human Resource Leadership.
The values-based curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, critical analysis, financial management, policy-making, ethics, strategic planning, and leadership by replicating real-world scenarios. All students are required to complete a final capstone course and build an Exit Portfolio that demonstrates the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the program. Courses are conducted in 11-week terms, with students enrolling in one course per term. Students enrolled in consecutive terms can fulfill degree requirements within 18 months.
Norwich utilizes the learning management system NUoodle (supported by Moodle) to conduct its online MPA program. Classes are taught using asynchronous instruction, as students can complete coursework on their own time. Online students have the option of attending a Virtual Residency Program offered by Norwich University’s Research and Leadership Centers. The program may be attended virtually (or in-person) and includes workshops and mentoring as well as networking opportunities with students, faculty, alumni, and participating speakers.
Additional Online MPA Programs for Residents of Vermont
Prospective students interested in pursuing an MPA outside of the areas of specialization offered by Norwich University may explore out-of-state online MPA programs that accept applicants from Vermont. Most online MPA programs can be completed without any residency requirements, eliminating the need to travel or relocate; however, some programs do feature mandatory in-person elements such as on-campus residencies or intensive courses, networking events, and orientations. While these in-person events can enhance the online learning experience, they may not be ideal for all students, especially those that do not live near the university they are attending. Therefore, students should research all degree requirements prior to applying and choose a program that best fits their desired learning preferences and career goals. Schools often have Admissions advisors who are available to offer guidance as well as answer any degree or application-related questions.
